Chapter Meeting on 12 Dec 2011

Dear Members and Friends,

Dec's meeting is finally here, and I have lined up an amazing lineup of 3 speakers who are all geared up to present their project and bring their public speaking journey to greater height. On top of this exciting program, we have DTM Jenny Au and our very own Mi Chi to share their feedback on the speakers as panel evaluators.

We have also a One of a Kind Table Topic Session, Battle of the Sexes. This promise to be a "Battle Royale", where 2 benches of Table Topic Speakers (Debaters) of the 2 genders will speak on various topic in support of their kind!

Join us on 12 Dec 2011, next Monday, 7pm. Do let me or our Toastmaster of the Day, Bruno Pereira, know of your speech introduction or background.

Feel free to invite your friends or family along. Light refreshment will be provided.

Nearest train station is a 5 min walk from Newton Mrt Station. Drivers may park your vehicle opposite the CC at the public car-park at Newton Circus Food Centre.

I look forward to seeing you next Monday.

Oct Chapter Meeting

Dear members and wonderful guests,

Pardon my lateness, but our meeting on 10 Oct 2011 was so good that i can still remember it (Thanks Nisshant, your method helps :)

We had an educational road trip during our Chapter meeting. Kenneth Yeo shared with us the ambitious plan to integrate Nature & Toastmasters, and Ah Cheng's demonstration on using a food blender that is different from others.

Our panel evaluators, John Sih and Kandimathi, bring their blend of humor & insight and provided valuable feedback to our speakers. John was sharp with his analysis and recommendations based on speech objectives and content, and Kandi was creative with her analysis and suggestions on the usage of the language used by the speakers.

Our 2nd part of the meeting sees a mind-blowing sharing by Asia's first Grandmaster of Memory, Nisshant Kasibhatla. He had entertained, enlightened and definitely elevated us to a paradigm shift on how he, and the rest of us, can achieve great memory. Yes, I can still remember the 16 items, and I am sure most if not all our members and friends present can remember too.
Thank you, Nisshant.

Please join us in our next meeting, 14 Nov 2011, held on the 2nd Monday of the month. Members who like to take up speaking slots or roles, do let me know so that I may allocate the slots for you. Do share this email to your friends whom I may have missed out.

Thinking of Speaking another topic for Humourous Speech Contest?

In Australia, I have completed the recent studies on the DIstrict 73 (Western & South Australia Region) for the 2009-2010 Work Year

Here are my findings:

The following items were noted:

1. Family-focused - In Australia, life revolves around the family, even in university, church and contests.

2. The topics at the contests (in speaking order):

a. Who loves your baby?

b. What's happening to me ?

c. Australian husband best or worst?

d. Catching Santa

e. The things you do for your children

f. Nobody Cares

g. Healthy Dirty Mind

h. America Holiday

i. Melons

j. Vindictive Cat

The winning sequence came from third to first in the brackets (f,i,d)

Wish you all the best for the coming contest.

Regards,

Gerald Ong ACG, ALB
